Chelsea keen on Signing another Bundesliga Star Kai Harvertz -The Guardian.

According to The Guardian, one of the most respected sources in the United Kingdom, Chelsea have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen over a potential deal for in-demand midfielder Kai Havertz ahead of the summer window.

Havertz, 20, has emerged as one of the most sought-after young talents in Europe after recently becoming the youngest player to clock up 100 appearances in the Bundesliga, with Chelsea, Man United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona all claimed to be hot on trail of the creative maestro.

Chelsea's interest in the Germany international has been

well-documented and the Blues are supposedly hoping to field him alongside Timo Werner, who is on the verge of completing a move to Stamford Bridge on a lucrative five-year deal from RB Leipzig.

With a £38m deal already in place for Hakim Ziyech to join the ranks from Ajax and a £53m move for Werner all but confirmed, Chelsea have sent out a strong statement of intent to their Premier League rivals in the post-pandemic market as Frank Lampard bids to close the gap on Man City and Liverpool.

Most clubs are still pretty much in dark about their summer budget after facing heavy losses due to the curtailment of football during the coronavirus pandemic, but Chelsea are supposedly in a better position to deal with the crisis, not least given the financial backing of Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

Having not made a single new signing for two consecutive windows, the Blues are keen to make up for the lost time with some fruitful business in the summer and Havertz has been on the radar for quite some time.

Here's a recap of Havertz's best goals at Leverkusen:

German top-tier journalist recently confirmed that Chelsea hold 'serious interest' in the 20-year-old and The Guardian has now backed up those claims by stating that talks to sign the versatile attacker are already underway.

However, a deal for Havertz wouldn't be so straightforward due to Leverkusen's asking price for their prized academy graduate. It has been reported that the Bundesliga outfit could hold out for as much as £89 million for the youngster, who has bagged 5 goals in 4 games since the season restart last month.

Chelsea, though, are reportedly hoping to negotiate a fee in the region of £70 million as that would make a deal more feasible from a financial perspective

Meanwhile, Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller recently provided an update on Havertz's future amidst interest from Chelsea and other top clubs, with the German legend firing a warning to the potential suitors that the Bundesliga outfit intend to keep hold of the in-form youngster.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are also understood to be targeting other top players like Ben Chilwell and Jadon Sancho as Lampard prepares for a squad overhaul in what could well be a blockbuster window for the Blues.
