Messi's recent contract with the club remains three years which will run out in 2021 allowing him to leave the club free in 2020.
As long as he does not join a club in the top leagues.
Xavi Hernandez left Barcelona for Qatar and Andreas Iniesta also moved to Japan and has extended their careers, given them a final payday and made sure they will not face Barcelona in any competition.
Giving Messi the same option would allow him to play for Newels Old Boys whiles he is still young to influence the game as he often discussed.
